On the 3rd, 4th and 5th, the first edition of the Maine Authors & Literary Festival opens in Camden. The first event of its kind in Maine, the festival is titled Spirit of Place Celebration. The Maine Literary Tradition
all of the literary tradition, Maine is home to many famous writers and award-winning and setting for many memorable stories. The festival brings together over 20 authors, poets and speakers who live and / or write a letter to Maine for a weekend to explore the idea of dynamic, creative and imaginative people who participate in a conviction passion for reading and for Maine.
event begins Friday, November 3 at 19:00 with Richard Russo, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Emmy-nominated author of Empire Falls, by providing lectures EB and Katharine White inaugural thoughts concept followed by a gala reception.
festivities continue on Saturday and Sunday as well-known authors provide a rich combination of lecture, reading and panel discussion on poetry, biographies, novels and books to make movies. The activities of the three-day weekends are held at historic Camden Opera House with an event Saturday night at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art.

provide E.B. first and Katharine White Memorial lecture. In fact, entertainment, Russo is a natural speech to the inaugural lecture. As EB, his prose is beautifully crafted and laced with humor. His lecture, the tombs and commode, focusing on humor writing and how writers find “artistic personality” of them. The family of EB and Katharine White has agreed to appoint a white conference based on the premise of scholarship and professionalism that form the core of the mission of the Festival. Each year, the teacher is an author and a high degree of integrity that has contributed to and affect the literature and have a passion for the Maine and its literary tradition. Martha White, grandson of E.B. and Katharine White and resident of Rockport, was a presenter at the Maine Literary Festival. She will read from the letter of E.B. White, revised and updated, to be published by Harper Collins in November. Ms. White is the editor of the new release.

Midcoast Branch of the American Association of University Women
women sitting around a kitchen table in 1926 in Waldoboro, ME, to build a branch of the American Association of University Women in Midcoast Maine can only dream that one day the branch will be the force behind this important new development in Maine. Maine Author Series & Literary Festival is a continuation and expansion of successful and critically acclaimed author of The 30-year Maine, a project grant from the Midcoast Maine Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). By Stephen King in 1976 in Tracy Kidder in 2005, more than 253 authors generously of their time and the audience happy, memorable in many cases, the authors first book. More than $ 100,000 were awarded scholarships for women and girls in three districts of Maine as a result of the first authors Maine.
In October 2005, four members of the branch met to consider the results of the series in 2005, to discuss how to proceed in 2006, and appointed a new president. Before the meeting ended, the concept of expanding the scope, even a full weekend festival, was born. Within a few months, another member of the AAUW joined the committee. The first edition of the Maine Authors & Literary Festival is the result of the vision and passion of the five women. All proceeds fund the program Midcoast AAUWs Festival scholarships for young women and girls may otherwise not be able to attend college.
